Former Hastings resident, Virginia J. Kerr, 83, of 3016 Colonial Lane, Grand Island, Nebraska, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001 at St. Francis Skilled Care, Grand Island, Nebraska. Services will be Saturday, July 28, 2001; 1:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Pastor Julie Bringelson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Hastings, Nebraska. Virginia J. Kerr was born June 21, 1918 in Sutton, Nebraska, to John & Ida (Biegert) Willey. She graduated from Sutton High School, Sutton, Nebraska in 1936. In 1938, she graduated from Hastings Beauty Academy, Hastings, Nebraska. She was a Sergeant in the United States Army, serving during WWII from August 4, 1943 to December 16, 1945. On May 23, 1944, she married Dean D. Kerr and he preceded her in death in August of 1978. They lived in North Platte, Nebraska before moving to Hastings, Nebraska where they resided for 45 years. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church, Hastings, Nebraska. Virginia J. Kerr was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dean, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
