John William Saathoff

Hastings resident, John William Saathoff, 71, of 1315 N. Cedar Ave., died Wednesday, October 31, 2001 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Services will be Saturday, November 3, 2001;10:00 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Carl W. Utley officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. 

John W. Saathoff was born April 13, 1930 in Franklin County, near Macon, Nebraska, to 
Herman & Della (Silverants) Saathoff. He was baptized in 1930 and confirmed in 1943 at Zion Lutheran Church, Macon, Nebraska. He attended District #75 near Macon, Nebraska from the 1st thru the 3rd grade and District #9 from the 4th thru the 8th grade. He graduated from Franklin High School, Franklin, Nebraska in 1948. He joined the United States Army, serving from 1948 to 1950 as a cook. On October 25, 1952, he married Norma Ann Killough in Red Cloud, Nebraska. He was a carpenter in construction for over 50 years, beginning in 1950 at the Harlan County Dam and later to Washington and Oregon states. He returned to Nebraska and continued in construction. He spent many years with Fast-Ferris Construction. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Eagles. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sporting events and spent a few years coaching and reffing baseball.

John W. Saathoff was preceded in death by his parents, step mother, 1 brother and 2 half brothers.
