Hastings resident, Dorlene Schumm, 82, of 1911 West 5th, died Thursday, August 9, 2007 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital. Services will be Tuesday, August 14, 2007; 11:00 A.M. at Merten-Butler Chapel, Blue Hill, Nebraska with Rev. Harold D. Stromer officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, August 12, 2007; 3:00 P.M. 9:00 P.M. & Monday, August 13, 2007; 9:00 A.M-9:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel, Hastings & Tuesday, August 14, 2007; 1 hr. prior to service at Merten-Butler Chapel, Blue Hill, Nebraska. Burial will be in Blue Hill Cemetery, Blue Hill, Nebraska. Memorials to her daughter, Marilyn Schumm Trust Fund. Dorlene was born February 5, 1925 in Blue Hill, Nebraska to Chris & Hazel (Gerloff) Niemeyer. She graduated from Hastings High School and was married to George Schumm. She lived in Guide Rock, Hastings and moved to Grand Island in 1970. When she retired, she moved back to Hastings. She was a retired federal employee, having first worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot in Hastings until it closed and later at the V.A Hospital, now known as Veterans Administration Medical Center in Grand Island, Nebraska. She was very active in the Hastings & Grand Island Eagles Auxiliary, serving as president & secretary. She organized bake sales and supported the Boys Ranch.
