Services will be Friday, October 3, 2008; 1:00 P.M. at Butler & Volland Chapel with Pastor Greg Volzke officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 1, 2008; 6:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M., Thursday, October 2, 2008; 9:00 A.M.-9:00 P.M. and Friday, October 3, 2008; 9:00 A.M. until service time. Mr. Slauter was born September 6, 1940 in Shenandoah, Iowa to Ralph & Louise (Starnes) Slauter. The family moved to Hastings when he was a young child. He graduated from Hastings High School. As a young man, he played legion baseball, enjoyed bowling and swimming and just spending time with his many friends. He worked on cars and enjoyed dragging, his favorite was that FAB 58 Impala that he proudly drove up and down Burlington. Don was a real people person, he had a way to make people feel important and unique and would often go to bat for the underdog. The most valued, important part of his life was his children and grandchildren. He was present at any and all activities, no matter what. It could be said he was one of the leaders of the spectator cheering section. Dons career encompassed a hands on spirited approach that consisted of entrepreneur, broker and manager of wholesale and retail merchandise and consumables. His most recent position was serving as an assistant manager with Wal-Mart. Mr. Slauter was preceded in death by his father, step father, Richard Bourg and a son, Darren.
