Benjamin F. 'Ben' McAllister

Former Hastings resident, Benjamin F. ‘Ben’ McAllister Jr., 67, of Haven Home, Kenesaw, Nebraska, died Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Saturday, August 16, 2008; 10:00 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Steve Markle officiating. Burial will be Saturday, August 16, 2008; 3:30 P.M. mountain standard time in Mount Hope Cemetery, Imperial, Nebraska. Visitation will be Thursday, August 14, 2008; 5:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M., Friday, August 15, 2008; 9:00 A.M.-9:00 P.M. with family present from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. and Saturday, August 16, 2008; 9:00 A.M. until service time. Memorials may be given to the family.

Ben was born August 14, 1940 in Sidney, Nebraska to Benjamin F. Sr. & Grace J. (Wetherby) McAllister. He graduated from Chase County High School, Imperial, Nebraska and received his teaching certificate from McCook College, McCook, Nebraska. On October 2, 1960, he married Darla Eaton in Imperial and they later divorced in 2003. He taught in rural schools in western Nebraska from 1961 to 1972. In 1972, they moved from Champion, Nebraska to Hastings where he worked for Kerrco Plastics and Hansen Building Specialties and later retired from Hastings Senior High School from the custodial department. He was active in Boy Scouts and enjoyed hunting with his father in his early years. He was a former member of Vintage & Classic Wheels of Grand Island.

Mr. McAllister was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.
