Hastings
resident, Walter “Babe” R. Dixon, 79, passed away Tuesday, January 31,
2012, at Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare, Hastings, Nebraska.
Rosary will be Friday, February 3, 2012; 7:00 P.M. at Butler Volland
Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, February 4, 2012;
10:00 A.M. at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, Hastings, Nebraska with
Father Joseph M. Walsh officiating. Burial with military rites will be
in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Thursday,
February 2, 2012; 5:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M., Friday, February 3, 2012; 9:00
A.M. – 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service
at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the
Catholic Social Services.
Babe was born October 4, 1932 in St. Paul, Minnesota to John Patrick &
Josephine (Domagalla) Dixon. He attended St. Mark’s School in St. Paul,
Minnesota. Babe married Judy Christoffersen on August 27, 1982 in
Hastings. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 until 1972 as a
Technical Sergeant, this included a three year tour of Viet Nam. Babe
worked as a lineman for Hastings Utilities from 1973 until 1992. He was
a friend of Bill W., and was a member of the D.A.V. and St. Cecilia’s
Catholic Church in Hastings.
Babe was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, George Dixon.
