Hastings
resident, Alice Rita Peper, 95, passed away Friday, January 13, 2012 at
Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society, Hastings Village, Hastings,
Nebraska.
Rosary will be Monday, January 16, 2012; 6:30 P.M. at Butler Volland
Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, January 17, 2012;
10:00 A.M. at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, Hastings, Nebraska with
Father Andrew Heaslip officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings,
Nebraska. Visitation will be Sunday, January 15, 2012; 4:00 P.M. – 9:00
P.M., Monday, January 16, 2012; 9:00 A.M. – 9:00 P.M. with family
present at 5:30 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to St.
Cecilia’s Catholic Church or Adams County Cancer Society.
Alice Peper the daughter of Joseph & Mary (Ostdiek) Brockman, was born
on the family farm north of Mt. Clare, Nebraska, August 19, 1916, the
fifth of ten children. Alice attended St. Stephens Parochial school
through eighth grade, then Mt. Clare High School 9th & 10th grades,
graduating Valedictorian and the Lawrence High School, 11th & 12th
grades, graduating Salutatorian of the class of 1935. She then went on
to Kearney Normal School to gain her Teaching Credentials and taught
three years at a Country one room school near Mt. Clare, Nebraska. Alice
was united in marriage to Clarence Henry Peper on May 29, 1939 at St.
Stephens, Nebraska. To this union nine children were born, Jean Marie,
Darrell, Larry, Bob, Wayne, Marv, Kenny, Kathy, and Ron. In 1953 the
family moved from Lawrence to Hastings and Alice then started to work at
Hastings Regional Center, retiring in 1981 from the Hastings Regional
Center as a Psychiatric Aid, after 27 years of service. She then enjoyed
her retirement years with family members, relatives, and friends. Alice
was a faithful member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church and Altar
Society. She loved raising her family, sewing/quilting, cooking, reading
when she had time, and tending to her gardens.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clarence Henry
Peper; daughter, Jean Marie Ingram; granddaughter, Victoria; and a
great-granddaughter, Sophia Denk; two sisters; and six brothers.
