Hastings resident, Lawrence “Larry” D. Kent, 72, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Perkins Pavilion Good Samaritan Society-Hastings Village, Hastings, Nebraska.

Memorial services will be Wednesday, September 28, 2011; 2:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings with Paul Julian officiating. Burial with military rites will be Wednesday, September 28, 2011; 4:30 P.M. in Glenvil Cemetery, Glenvil, Nebraska. There will be no viewing or visitation. Memorials may be given to Perkins Pavilion.

Larry was born March 6, 1939 in Denver, Colorado to Sidney & Florence (Spickard) Kent. He graduated from Denver East High School, Denver, Colorado. Larry served in the U.S. Marines and U.S. Navy. He worked in various real estate jobs and was an over the road truck driver. Larry married Donna Merkel in 1994 and they moved to Hastings in 1997. He was inducted into the Denver East High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009. Larry’s records set in swimming have yet to be beaten.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marilyn Conant; and one niece, Leslie Geraci.
