Al was born in Juniata, NE in 1936 to Alvina (Schiefelbein) and Arnold Beiriger. He graduated from St. Cecilia High School before enlisting in the Army where he served in the medical corps towards the end of the Korean War. Al married Mary (Frink) on April 25, 1959, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church. They had six children.
Al worked more than 40 years at Pepsi Cola in Hastings, starting as one of the original bottlers and retiring as a service manager. He was well known as the “Pepsi Man” in small towns along the route he drove in Southern Nebraska and Northern Kansas. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Eagles club. Through the years, Al spent his time bowling, golfing, and making friends wherever he went. One of his favorite pastimes was playing cards with friends and family and he was a fiercely competitive Pitch player up until his final weeks. He taught his children the value of hard work and how to tell a good joke. His favorite saying he learned from his father; “It’s nice to get old but it’s hell to be old.” His kids are thankful they had so much time with him.
Al was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Frink); daughter, Susan; brother, Bernie Beiriger and sister-in-law, Jeanie Beiriger; sister, Kathleen Kealy and brother-in-law, John Kealy; and sister, Bonita Kindig and brother-in-law, Jim Kindig.
He is survived by his children, Chris (Duncan) and husband Dave Duncan of Wentworth SD, Bill Beiriger of Lincoln, Debra Beiriger of Hastings, Matt Beiriger and wife Lynn Beiriger of Beatrice, and Angie Beiriger and husband Chris Hawes of Portland, OR; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
