Bernie was born on March 14, 1955, in Hastings, NE, to Peter and Aileen (Klein) Bonifas. A graduate of Roseland High School, Class of 1973, Bernie married the love of his life, Valerie “Val” Zubrod, on April 5, 1975, at Assumption Catholic Church. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, and farming.
Bernie farmed in the area for many years, dedicating his life to the land and community he loved. He was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree in Roseland. He also gave back as a past member of the Holstein Rural Fire Department and the Nebraska Cattlemen.
Bernie will be remembered for his deep sense of responsibility, his enduring work ethic, and his quiet but steady presence in the lives of those who knew him. He enjoyed playing board games with his granddaughters and watching them at their sporting events.
Bernie was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, John Bonifas; brother-in-law, Gary Hassebrook; and sister-in-law, Sherri Bonifas.
