Roseland resident Bonita S. “Bonnie” Pittz, 73, passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Emerald Nursing & Rehab Lakeview, Grand Island, NE.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, August 24 and Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 25, at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Assumption with Father Brian Wirth officiating. Burial will be at Assumption Cemetery in Assumption. Visitation will be Noon-4 p.m. Sunday, August 24, at Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home in Hastings and 6-7 p.m. with the family present Sunday, August 24, at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Assumption. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Assumption Cemetery Association or Assumption Catholic Church. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. Bonnie was born on March 7, 1952, in Grand Island, NE, to Burdett J. and Elizabeth J. (Hoppe) Riese. She graduated from Doniphan High School in 1970 and went on to earn a degree in Special Education from Kearney State College in 1973. That same year, on June 8, she married the love of her life, Dennis Pittz, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Doniphan.
A devoted woman of faith, Bonnie was an active member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. She served her community through her involvement in the Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, where she held leadership roles including Regent and District Deputy. Bonnie worked at Mid Nebraska Individual Services, had an in-home daycare, and worked at Bert’s Pharmacy for over 25 years in downtown Hastings.
Bonnie will be remembered for her deep compassion, her lifelong commitment to education and service, and her unwavering dedication to her family and church.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; sister and spouse, Beth & Tom Burk; brother-in-law, Rod Bell; and parents-in-law, Jim & Elaine Pittz.
