Charles R. "Chuck" Eigenberg

Hastings resident Charles R. “Chuck” Eigenberg, 81, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, NE.

Burial Office will be at 10 a.m. Friday, October 17, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Pro-Cathedral in Hastings with The Very Reverend Katie Hargis officiating. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation will be 1-7 p.m. with family present 5-7 p.m. Thursday, October 16, at the funeral home, and one hour before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to The Arc of Adams-Clay Counties, Hastings College-Charles R. Eigenberg Scholarship Fund, or YMCA of Hastings. Chuck was born on November 1, 1943, in Hastings, NE, to Chris and Irma (Stulken) Eigenberg. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1962 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University, followed by a Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati. On March 19, 1966, he married Sigrid Rubenkoenig at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Terrace Park, Ohio. Together, they built a life rooted in love, learning, and community.

Chuck devoted his career to education, serving as a professor at Hastings College, where he inspired generations of students through his passion for teaching and his dedication to knowledge. His colleagues and students remember him for his thoughtful guidance, humor, and genuine care for others. Chuck will be remembered for his sharp intellect, kind spirit, and unwavering love for his family and community.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Paul; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harry & Joan Rubenkoenig; and great-grandson, Westley Lyman.
