Connie Blankenship

December 19, 1946 — July 11, 2019

After a long courageous battle on two separate occasions ten years apart with the side effects of chemotherapy, Connie Corine Blankenship passed away on July 11, 2019, at Bryan Medical Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Celebration of Life is 2 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at Burr Oak Christian Church, Burr Oak, KS with Pastor Dan Albers officiating . Burial will be in Burr Oak Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Morrison Cancer Center or Burr Oak Community Library. Visitation is Wednesday 2-8 p.m. at Merten Butler Mortuary in Blue Hill.

Connie was born on December 19, 1946, in Concordia, KS to Loren and Nina (Burton) Fogo. She grew up on a farm southwest of Burr Oak, KS. She was raised within the faith at Church of the Nazarene in Burr Oak, KS. Connie graduated from Burr Oak High School in the class of 1964. She earned a certificate to be a secretary from Beloit V-Tech and then earned an associate degree from Cloud County Community College.

On July 11, 1971, Connie married William Paul Blankenship in Burr Oak, KS in the Church of the Nazarene. They were married for exactly 48 years, Connie having passed away on their 48 th wedding anniversary. Connie was employed first as a secretary and subsequently became the office manager for the Farm Service Agency (previously known as Farmers Home Administration) in Smith Center, KS. She retired after 32 years of service.

Throughout her lifetime, Connie enjoyed painting, drawing, running, walking, playing her keyboard, traveling, attending various sporting events, watching old tv shows, and contacting old friends. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her husband, especially after retirement. She loved animals and was a bonafide lover and owner of cats. Connie was an organ donor.

Connie was reserved, kind, thoughtful, considerate, forgiving, so easy to talk to, with a great sense of humor and was not afraid to laugh at herself.

She was preceded in death by her parents; younger brother, Wayne Fogo; two sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; two nephews; and one niece.

Connie is survived by her older sister and spouse, Joyce Ann (Fogo) & Roger Palmer of Osborne, KS; and her husband, William Blankenship of Blue Hill, NE. She is also survived by three generations of nieces and nephews, and many friends she made along the way.
