Curtis was born April 5, 1960, in York, NE to Dale and Darlene (Gerard) Fry. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1978.
While in high school, he enlisted in the Army National Guard, where he continued to serve until 1985. This was something he continued to be proud of until his passing. Curtis met his wife, Doris (Franklin), while working at Hinky Dinky in Hastings. They married on July 17, 1982, and were married for more than 31 years until her passing in 2013. They were each other’s best friends and were always seen together, whether it was grocery shopping or attending their daughters’ school activities.
To their union, three daughters were born, Rebecca Marie, Renee Nicole, and Cassandra Joy. While the girls were growing up, they lived in Omaha, Juniata and Hastings. Curtis worked various jobs, Bimbo Bakery being his longest venture until they closed in 2016. While there, he participated in the workers union, being the union president at one point.
As most know, Curtis’ biggest calling was being a baker. He loved to bake cakes, turtle rolls, Christmas candies and lots of other sweet treats. They were always delicious and something the family looked forward to during the holidays.
Curtis had many interests including collecting coins and researching family genealogy. As his legacy, he has gifted and passed down many of these coins to his beloved daughters and grandchildren. His daughters find genealogy interesting now, but while growing up they would often become bored at libraries while he spent hours going through microfiche records, looking for marriages, births and deaths.
Curtis loved his church, Lakeside Church of the Nazarene, and the many friendships he made there-especially Pastor Krystal Kennard and Dan Saalfeld.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents; wife; mother-in-law, Norma Franklin; and sister-in-law, D’Ann Scheiding.
