Hastings resident Dale Duane Bird, 77, passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family.
Dale’s wishes were to be cremated. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to St, Jude’s. Private family burial will be at Blue Valley Cemetery at a later date. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.lbvfh.com. Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home & Cremation Center is serving the family.
Dale was born on December 2, 1948, in Hastings, Nebraska, to Donald & Marybelle (Rants) Bird. He grew up in Hastings, where he graduated from Hastings High School and later attended Central Community College.
Dale proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1969-1971. On August 27, 1971, he married Barbara Jurgena, beginning a devoted marriage filled with love, hard work, and shared passions.
Dale was the owner of the Firestone store in Hastings, where his strong work ethic and dedication to quality were well known. He had a lifelong love for cars and greatly enjoyed restoring vehicles, a hobby he especially cherished sharing with his son, Craig. In addition to his passion for automobiles, Dale loved his dogs, hunting, and restoring homes alongside his wife.
Above all else, Dale was a family man. He deeply loved his family and found his greatest joy in the time spent with them. His kindness, craftmanship, and unwavering devotion to those he loved will be fondly remember by all who knew him.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; father & mother-in-law, Alfred & Agnes Jurgena; sister & brother-in-law, Judy & John Marfisi; and brother-in-law Dennis Jurgena.
