Dale Jorgensen

April 19, 1922 — May 10, 1948

Hastings resident, Dale W. Jorgensen, 84, 525 South Lexington, died Sunday, September 10, 2006 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital from complications of West Nile virus.

Rosary will be Tuesday, September 12, 2006; 8:00 P.M. at Butler-Volland Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial with military rites will be Wednesday, September 13, 2006; 10:30 A.M. at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Hastings, Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Dale Jorgensen Hastings Catholic School Tuition Fund. Visitation will be Monday, September 11, 2006; 5pm-9pm, Tuesday, September 12, 2006; 9am-9pm at Butler-Volland Funeral Home and Wednesday, September 13, 2006; 1 hr. prior to service at the church.

Mr. Jorgensen was born April 19, 1922, on the family farm in Kearney, County, near Osco, Nebraska to Byron David & Ethel Christine (Ostergaard) Jorgensen. He graduated from Holstein High School in 1939. and also from Hastings Business College. He served in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII and the 41st Infantry Division from January 1942 to January 1946. On May 10, 1948, he married Virginia Smydra at St. Mary's Cathedral, Grand Island, Nebraska. From 1959 until 1972, he owned & operated Fairmont Ice Cream Store. He then went to work for the United States Post Office, until he retired as supervisor in 1984. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, American Legion, Eagles, Silver Haired Senators and NARFE, where he was President of the local chapter. He was a life member of D.A.V. & V.F.W. He was on the Board of Directors at the Hastings Credit Union for 20 years.

Mr. Jorgensen was preceded in death by his parents.
