DeAnne Kathleen Burr

Former Hastings resident DeAnne Kathleen Burr of Lincoln, 85, passed away Monday, January 15, 2024, at Bryan Medical Center West, Lincoln, NE.    

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, January 20, at Grace United Methodist Church in Hastings with Rev. Benjamin Hanne officiating. A private family burial will be at Rosedale Cemetery in Rosedale. There will be no viewing or visitation. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. DeAnne was born on August 22, 1938, in Los Angeles, CA, the daughter of Larry and Florence (Burroughs) Billups. Florence later remarried Orville Shafer and the family lived in the Rosedale area. She attended grade school at Rosedale and graduated from Hastings Senior High School and attended Kearney State College.

On March 12, 1960, DeAnne married the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Burr at Grace United Methodist Church in Hastings. She was proud of being one of the first couples married in the newly built church. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who will be dearly missed. Her family remembers the cherished moments spent with her cooking, baking, sewing, and doing crafts and puzzles in her home. Their home was always open for anyone wanting a good home-cooked meal.

DeAnne helped Dick start Burr Land Leveling, and was the bookkeeper for many years. Later she would run a daycare in her home. She loved spending time with children.

DeAnne was preceded in death by her parents, Larry Billups, and Orville and Florence Shafer; husband, Richard “Dick” Burr; and sister, Roberta Conklin.
