Donald F. Gartner

Former Hansen resident Donald Fredrick Gartner, 86, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Prairie Commons Care Center in Grand Island, NE.

Services will be at 10:30 A.M., Friday, November 6, 2026, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Doniphan, NE, with Pastor Tyler Hauptmeier officiating. Burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Trumbull, NE. Visitation will be 1-7 P.M., Thursday, November 5, 2026, with family present 5-7 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. Donald was born September 22, 1940, northeast of Hastings, NE, to Henry and Fannie (Janssen) Gartner. He lived on the home place 4 miles south of Doniphan, NE as a child. He was baptized on November 10, 1940, in Hastings, NE. His sponsors were John and Calar Gartner. He was confirmed on April 11, 1954, at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hastings, NE. He married Julia Ann Adler on June 8, 1958, at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hastings, NE. To this union, three children were born, Tammy, Brenda, and Randy.

Don managed a farm and feed lot in Columbus, NE, for 8 years. He then moved to Giltner, NE, where he farmed for 36 years and retired. Don and Julia built a house in Hansen, NE; this is where he built little barns for many years. Don has been a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Doniphan, NE, since 1969.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; 14 brothers & sisters; and grandson, Blaine Frerichs.
