Dody was born April 26, 1933, to Damond & Hazel (Nelson) Kenny in Belden, Nebraska. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1950. Dody married Raymond Sanford on August 30, 1952. Dody began her career in 1961 at KHAS TV Station, and she retired in 1997 when her husband became ill, so she could be by his side during his battle with cancer.
Dody held many titles in her 93 years of life: infant, girl, toddler, teen, and woman. She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother (granny), sister-in-law, cousin, aunt, niece, and friend. I have heard from many of her co-workers that she was the rock, a therapist, and a second mom to many. But most of all, she is God’s child, and she has returned home. If you can even touch one life while here on earth, you have done your job well, and she touched many lives. So go out there and do something that will make God smile today.
God takes a life and gives a life. The family was so hoping for Dody to hold the title of great-great-grandma and be with us to rejoice the new birth that God will bless us with in October. We were so blessed to have Dody for 93 years to share all our milestones with. We had the best. She was loving and supportive of all her children. She was not only a mother but a forever friend. We learned through her examples. After the passing of our dad, facing life alone without him, her world was never the same. The words ‘and two shall become one’ are so true. This dear lady was loved by all who encountered her, and she will be greatly missed.
Dody was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond; son, Michael Sanford; brothers, Pat, Terry, and Dean Kenny; brothers-in-law, Richard Sanford and Louie Sanford; sisters-in-law, Pat Sanford, Barbara Sanford, Jane Horton, and Kathy Kenny; great-grandson, Benjamin Diecker; nephew, Ronald Kenny; and great-nephew, Tony LaPenna.
