Duane was born April 13, 1942, in Emerson, NE, to Henry and Gertrude Biede. He attended Homer public schools and attained a bachelor's and master's of arts in education from Wayne State College. On July 15, 1998, Duane married Ardyce Auten, also of Hastings, bringing together two families and leading to many years of love and delight in travels together. Duane spent many years educating at multiple schools before switching careers to help others with their insurance needs.

Duane lived a full and meaningful life surrounded by the people and things he loved most. He enjoyed traveling, attending auctions, collecting antiques, and gathering around the table for a good game of cards. Above all, he treasured his family and rarely missed an opportunity to spend time with his children and grandchildren. His dedication to his community was evident through his involvement with Boy Scouts, 4-H, the Shriners, and many professional organizations, where he formed many lasting friendships. He will be remembered for his generous heart, love of family, sense of adventure, and the countless memories he created along the way. Duane will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, children, grandchildren, extended family, and his countless friends who were fortunate enough to know and love him.

The family would like to sincerely thank the amazing staff at The Kensington for the genuine love, kindness, and support they provided to Duane during the time he lived there.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Ylene Longwell and Walter Biede.

Duane is survived by his wife, children Mark (Karri) Biede, Michele Biede, and David Biede; grandchildren Sam (Caitlin) Simon, Hundter Biede, Kiarra Biede, Jessica Biede, Sophia Biede, and Nicholas Biede; siblings Stan (Sharyn) Biede, Hank (Terri) Biede, and Betty (Jeff) Homan.
