Emilye Thompson

Former Juniata resident Emilye B. Thompson, 89, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019, at the Henderson Care Center, Henderson, NE.

Rosary is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2019, with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Hastings with Father Nathan J. Hall officiating.  Burial will be in Juniata Cemetery in Juniata. Memorials may be given to Alzheimer’s Association. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church.

Emilye was born August 23, 1929, to Adolph and Agnes (Kassik) Skalka in Spring Ranch, NE.  She graduated from St. Cecilia High School, Hastings in 1947.

Emilye married Herbert F. Thompson on April 12, 1948, at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, Hastings and he preceded her in death on July 21, 1999. She was an Occupational Therapist at Hastings Regional Center for 44 years and retired in 1991.  She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and former member of its Altar Society. Emilye enjoyed activities with her family and grandchildren. Her hobbies were sewing and furniture upholstery. Emilye and Herbert liked fishing, vacations and entertaining together. She was a great cook and her specialty was homemade runzas.

Emilye was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herbert F. Thompson; sisters, Helen Johnson and Eleanor McAcy; and great-grandson, Samuel Myers.
