Hastings resident, Frank W. Northrop, 86, of 302 University, died Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings, Nebraska.

Memorial services will be Tuesday, April 1, 2008; 2:00 P.M. at First Presbyterian Church, Hastings, Nebraska with Rev. Dr. William G. Nottage-Tacey officiating. Private family interment at Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Sunday, March 30, 2008; 1PM-9PM & Monday, March 31, 2008; 9AM-9PM. Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, YMCA or Teammates Mentoring Program.

Mr. Northrop was born June 30, 1921 to Frank E. & Gertrude (Wheeler) Northrop in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He graduated from high school and attended Colorado College, Colorado Springs, Colorado, before enlisting in the United States Coast Guard, attending the Coast Guard Academy in Grotten, Connecticut. He was a chemical war specialist stationed in Greenland, Washington, D.C., and Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, where he was in charge of coastal lighthouses. He married Mary Heumann in Omaha, Nebraska on June 19, 1949. He retired as president of Hastings Casket Company in 1986 and was associated with Northrop Enterprises at the time of his death. He was a past president of Nebraska Funeral Directors Supply Organization. He was also a 50 year member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving as trustee, elder and deacon. He was a past or present board member of the following organizations: Hastings Salvation Army, Good Samaritan Village Advisory Board, Hastings Food Pantry, Adams County Republican Party, Parkview Cemetery, and the Hastings YMCA. He was a 37 year member of Hastings Kiwanis and received the national Hixon Fellowship Award for service in 2000. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Tehema Temple Shrine of Hastings. In 2001, he was appointed by Governor Johanns to the 10th Judicial Nominating Commission. He was also a member of Lochland Country Club and the Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts Historical Society.

Mr. Northrop was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and a son, David E. Northrop.
