Fred was born on January 14, 1953, in Hastings, NE, to Paul and Winifred (Chevalier) Spitz. He graduated from St. Cecilia Highschool in Hastings, Nebraska in 1971. He married Linda Brader on May 2, 1975. They had two children, Tambi of Front Royal, Virginia and Dale of Hastings, Nebraska. They have four grandsons.

A lifelong fixture in the Hastings machining industry, Fred dedicated his working years to his craft. His love for the trade began as a young boy at the Spitz Foundry; he often shared fond memories of sweeping the floors, running odd jobs for pocket money, and watching his father and uncle work.

Over his 60-plus working years, he was employed at Hastings Irrigation, Cornhusker Tool and finally retiring at Hastings Utilities, where he was a valued employee and took pride in the work he did serving the Hastings community.

Back in his younger days, he was a motorcycle enthusiast. He and Linda would reflect back on their various biking adventures together. Both children have many memories of their early days riding with dad on his Harley Davidson. His interest in some rather unique hobbies continued as he and Linda enjoyed years of Country Square Dancing together. Fred also dabbled in Taekwondo and worked his way up to earning his 2nd degree black belt.

At the center of Fred’s life was his Catholic faith. He was a dedicated member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Hastings, attending Mass and Eucharistic Adoration almost daily and was well known for taking care of many things in the church over the years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. In his final years, Fred spent time traveling alongside his wife on various trips with their grown children, spending time with grandchildren, and continued service to his Church.

Fred is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Kenneth “Butch” Spitz.
