Gary Nelson

Hastings resident, Gary V. Nelson, 67, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska.

Services will be Tuesday, January 21, 2014; 10:30 A.M. at First United Methodist Church, Hastings with Pastor Tony Dawson officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Saturday, January 18, 2014; 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M., Monday, January 20, 2014; 9:00 A.M. - 8:00 P.M. with family receiving guests from 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date.

Gary was born August 10, 1946 in Holdrege, Nebraska to Verlen O. & Audrey (Cort) Nelson. He graduated from Bertrand High School. Gary served with the U.S. Army from January 26, 1966 until January 6, 1968. He married Sherri Crowe on October 26, 1968 at Bladen Methodist Church, Bladen, Nebraska. They celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary this past October. Gary was employed at Dutton-Lainson as a supervisor and had worked for them for 46 years when he passed away on January 15th. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Elks Country Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Eagles Aerie #592, and American Legion. Gary enjoyed life in general, especially golfing, camping, fishing, his grandchildren and their sporting event, and spending time with family and good friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Dennis Burge.
