Hastings, Nebraska, resident George L. Landgren passed away peacefully on Friday, September 4, 2026, at the age of 84, surrounded by his loving family.
George was born on August 4, 1942, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, to Lynn and Madeline Landgren. His family later moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where he attended school through his junior year of high school. The family then moved to Papillion, Nebraska, where George graduated from high school and met the love of his life, Sandy Johansen.
George went on to attend the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where he studied biology and enjoyed a successful baseball career as both a starting and relief pitcher. He was drafted in Major League Baseball, but chose to pursue a career in dentistry.
Following his time at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, George continued his education at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where he completed dental school and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery. After earning his degree, he enlisted in the Nebraska Air National Guard, where he served his country.
George married Sandy Johansen on August 29, 1964. They then moved to Hastings, Nebraska, where George established his dental practice and began a fulfilling career. George took great pride in his work and genuinely loved his patients.
He was dedicated to serving the Hastings community. George was a past president of the Nebraska Society of Dentistry for Children, Ducks Unlimited, Big Brothers, and Lochland Country Club. He was also involved with the Southwest Nebraska Peer Review Committee, Adams County Dental Society, and was an active member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
In his free time, George enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with family and friends, and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He especially enjoyed spending time at the family farm with his sons and grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his sister, Sue Line, and his son, Mark.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sandy Landgren; his children, Dave (Kelly) Landgren, Laurie (Mark) Parr, and Mike Landgren; his grandchildren, Claire, Kate, and Luke Landgren, Sam and Ben Landgren, Ellie and Jack Moncrief, Josie (Ethan) Hausserman, Sydney (Hunter) Fischer, Jill and Lindsey Parr, and Libby, Emma, and Jake Landgren; his great-grandchildren, Aila, Kelc, Duke, and Mara Hausserman; and his sisters, Beth (Mike) O’Halloran and Jill (Dave) Hild, along with many nieces and nephews.
