Gerald E. Buttell Jr.

Hastings resident Gerald E. Buttell Jr., 86, passed away Friday, November 3, 2023, at his home.    

 

Rosary will be at 10:30 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, November 10, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Hastings with Father Liam O’Shea-Creal and Father Thomas Brouillette officiating. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. There will be no viewing or visitation. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. Gerald was born February 26, 1937 in Hastings, NE to Gerald E. Sr and Margaret (Kahler) Buttell. He spent his high school days having four full years as a very successful football, basketball, and baseball player making several All City teams with honors as well as participating on the track team. He graduated from St. Cecilia High School in 1955. Gerald married Marilyn Shacklett on October 19, 1957 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Hastings.

 

He began working for Dutton-Lainson Company in 1957 in the paint department, later transferring to the accounting dept where he was employed as Chief Cost Accountant until completing 45 years of employment until his well-deserved retirement in 2002. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church where he served as an Acolyte for several years, took communion to shut-ins, helped serve the Children's Mass, as well as participated in Perpetual Adoration, Gerald was a devout Catholic. He was a member of the Hastings Elks Club, Lochland Country Club, and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed spending his time golfing, hunting, fishing and watching horse racing. Gerald loved his children, grandchildren and family pets.

 

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marilyn Buttell; and sister, Mary Rita Simmons.
