Glenn was born on November 17, 1936, at home south of Arapahoe to Tobias and Elsie (Hein) DeVries, the 8th of 12 children. He attended school for 3 yrs in a country school and the remainder of his education at Arapahoe Public School, graduating in 1953, at the age of 16. After graduation, he farmed with his dad for 2 years. He tried to enlist in the army before he was 18 ½ years old, but had to give them 3 years, so he went back home. Then worked for 2 brothers-in-law farming until he was married. On June 30, 1957, he was united in marriage to JoAnn Moore in Frontier County, in a small country church near her home. To this union, 5 children were born. They lived in Hastings, and in the Fall, he started working for Trumbull Coop as a tank wagon salesman. He was known to carry Tootsie Rolls to share with any kids on his route. The next year, they moved to Trumbull. In 1963, they moved to the farm with their 3 children, Teresa, Doug, and Tammy. They milked cows and raised stock cows, and hogs. In 1965, they moved to another farm, which they bought. Just before they moved, their 4th child, Duane, was born on Glenn’s birthday. He had a congenital heart condition, so they were swamped with medical bills. He died at 6 months of age. The following year, 1967, they had another boy, Don. Glenn worked driving trucks and doing odd jobs for people to help supplement the farm income. He quit farming in 1998 and focused more on carpentry. He worked in and on many homes around the area, repairing and remodeling. Several grandchildren apprenticed under him. Glenn also enjoyed hunting, bowling, pickle cards, and talking with people. He never met a stranger. Glenn and Jo enjoyed traveling the USA and points abroad. Glenn accepted Christ as Savior as an adult. He was a member of the E Free Church in Hastings and enjoyed their Sunday School class. Glenn & Jo also enjoyed a couple’s home Bible Study for many years.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Duane Glenn; grandson, Ryan Daniel Soucie; brothers: Carl, Wayne, Jack, and Charles; sisters: Mary Bockerman, Elsie Mae Frogge, Phyliss Alexander, and Dorothy Wilson.
