Gregory Ellis, Sr

Hastings resident, Gregory A. Ellis, Sr., 59, passed away Monday, June 9, 2014 at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be Thursday, June 12, 2014; 10:30 A.M. at Faith Lutheran Church, Hastings with Pastor Paul Dunbar officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings Veterans Organizations will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 11, 2014; 9:00 A.M. - 8:00 P.M. with family present 6:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date.

Greg was born April 25, 1955 in Hastings, Nebraska to George J. Ellis & Erma (Eastman) (Ellis) Luth. He grew up in Hastings and graduated from Hastings High School. Greg served with the U.S. Navy from June 19, 1972 - July 7, 1972. He married Pam Halsey on February 26, 1972; to this union were born Greg Jr., Douglas Dean, Tammy Lynn, and James J. Ellis. They later divorced in 1991. He married Julie Jane Bruckman on August 14, 1993; to this union one son was born, Zachary D. Ellis. Julie preceded him in death on December 30, 2010. Greg was a self-employed truck driver and owned Greg Ellis Trucking. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, American Legion, Eagles, and was a life member and commander at the Disabled American Veterans. Greg was a member of the Hastings Chapparral Motorcycle club.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents, George & Erma; grandparents; wife, Julie J. Ellis; daughter, Tammy Lynn Ellis; and son, Douglas Dean Ellis.
