Hastings resident Harold D. “Sal” Salmon, 84, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, NE.
Memorial Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 26, at Butler Volland Chapel in Hastings with Chaplain John Mueller. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Memorials may be given to the family. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. Sal was born on March 9, 1941, in Altus, OK, to John & Emma (Garrison) Salmon.
On March 9, 1985, Sal married the love of his life, Karen Mae Powell, and together they shared a marriage filled with love and companionship.
Sal proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1966. A devoted patriot, he was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), where he found camaraderie and community.
He dedicated 17 years of his life to serving with the Hastings Police Department, where he earned the respect of colleagues and community members alike. After leaving law enforcement, KT Heating, and he then continued to serve others through his work in maintenance at Good Samaritan.
Sal was a man of many talents and passions. He enjoyed the great outdoors—whether it was fishing, hunting, or working on woodworking projects. His craftsmanship, dedication, and quiet strength will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Sal was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Rosalie Goodson and Jeraline Brooks.
