Harry A. "Al" Martin

Hastings resident Harry A. “Al” Martin, 87, passed away Friday, May 30, 2025, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Grand Island, NE.

Memorial Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14, at Butler Volland Chapel in Hastings with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Private burial with military rites by Hastings Military Honor Guard will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Churchyard Cemetery, west of Glenvil. There will be no viewing or visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. Al was born on June 11, 1937, in San Antonio, NM, to Louise A. Ady. He grew up in Imperial, NE. At the age of 17, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Navy in 1954 and proudly serving until 1957. After his time in the service, he settled in Hastings.

On December 27, 1959, Al married the love of his life, Florence M. Epkes, at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hastings. Florence preceded Al in death on October 10, 2024.

Throughout his working years, Al was known for his strong work ethic and dedication. He worked for T & L Irrigation and Nebraska Aluminum Castings. Later, he drove trucks for Dahlsten Trucking and other companies before owning AM-FM Trucking Co.

Al was a faithful member of First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hastings and a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Grand Island. He found strength in his faith and camaraderie among fellow veterans.

Al was preceded in death by his mother, Louise A. Bassford; wife, Florence M. Martin; sister, Betty L. Browning; son, Wade K. Martin; and son-in-law, Roger A. Alloway.
