Irene Garrett

Grand Island resident, Irene B. Garrett, 89, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Saint Francis Medical Center, Grand Island, Nebraska.

Services will be Wednesday, January 25, 2012; 2:00 P.M. at Butler Volland Chapel, Hastings with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 24, 2012; 2:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. and Wednesday, January 25, 2012; 9:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to donor's choice.

Irene was born May 5, 1922 in Hastings, Nebraska to Albert & Emma (Koberstein) Bierman. She graduated from Hastings High School. Irene married Wilson Garrett on January 22, 1949; he preceded her in death in 1965. They owned and operated Garrett Dry Cleaning in Hastings; in 1960 they moved the business to Grand Island, and Irene worked at Skagway, Green Stamp Store, and as a secretary in the City Building. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island and liked to work out at the YMCA.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilson Garrett; son, Roger; three brothers, Lloyd, LaVern, and Clayton; and sister, Isola Eaglin.
