Jackie was born on February 5, 1927, in Fremont, Nebraska, to William A. and Thelma I. (Smith) Lamberty. She is believed to have been the last surviving member of Fremont High School’s Class of 1944. Following graduation, she attended the University of Nebraska from 1944 to 1945, where she was a proud member of the Alpha Phi Sorority. In 1946, Jackie married Robert G. Knight. They shared many happy years together until his passing in 1998, which preceded her in death.

Her love of people and passion for service remained constant throughout Jackie’s life. She was a devoted member of St. Mark’s Pro-Cathedral, where she taught Sunday school for many years and served on both the Altar Guild and Women of St. Mark’s. Jackie also held leadership roles as President of the Tehama Shrine Auxiliary and Vice President of the Nebraska Court Reporters Service. In addition, she was a member of the YWCA and a lifetime member of the Mary Lanning Auxiliary and recently celebrated being a 50 year member of PEO - Chapter GK.

Jackie enjoyed a vibrant social life, collecting friends the way others collect stamps or figurines. From an early age, she loved organizing tea parties and attending dance recitals, and she spent countless hours cheering on her father and brother at sporting events. That same enthusiasm carried on through the years as she proudly supported her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in their many activities.

She delighted in hosting “wine club” gatherings, as well as countless dinners and lunches with friends and family, continuing to bring people together whenever she could. A devoted Nebraska Cornhusker fan, Jackie made innumerable trips to Lincoln from both Fremont and Hastings to follow her beloved team and rarely missed a Nebraska football game on television.

Jackie was deeply engaged in the Hastings business and education communities. Alongside supporting her husband in his successful career as a court reporter, she spent many years working in the campus book store & registrar's office at Hastings College, where she formed lasting friendships with countless students over the years.

Jackie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and daughter Suzanne Knight Farris.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Vanasche of Albany, OR; grandchildren Beth (Randy) Coil of Hastings, Andrea (Troy) Curtis of Hastings, Laura (Jonathan) Hartmann of Spring, TX; Kelly (Chip) Hill of Alexandria, VA, and Andrew (Rochelle) Vanasche of Bend, OR.
