James M. Kimminau

Hastings resident James M. Kimminau, 91, passed away August 13, 2026, at Adept Nursing Home in Blue Hill, NE.

Rosary will be at 10:00 a.m., and Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 20, 2026, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Hastings, NE, with Father Jeremy Hazuka officiating. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Butler Volland Funeral Home in Hastings, NE, and one hour prior to the service at the Church. Memorials may be given to St. Michael’s Catholic Church. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. James M. Kimminau was born August 23, 1934, in Lawrence, Nebraska to Theodore and Clara (Schutte) Kimminau. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1951. James served in the U.S. Army at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC, from 1956 to 1958.

James married Elsie (Svoboda) Kimminau on May 23, 1960, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Hastings, Nebraska. He was employed by Wells Fargo Bank for 28 years and by Hastings State Bank for 22 years, retiring in 2009.

James was a member and lector at St. Michael’s Church and was treasurer of the Men’s Club. He was a 4th degree and honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus. He served as the treasurer for 48 years. After retiring, James volunteered for Catholic Social Services for several years.

James was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister-in-law, Sylvester and Elaine Kimminau; son Kenneth Kimminau; and grandson, Zachary James Butcher.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie Kimminau, and children Deborah Butcher of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Randall and Siobhan Kimminau of Omaha, Nebraska; and Brian and Ericka Kimminau of Fremont, Nebraska. Grandchildren –Matthew Butcher of Council Bluffs, IA; Justin and Nicole Butcher of Silver City, Iowa; Isabel Kimminau of Omaha, NE; Alex, Kayla, Anna and Karson Kimminau of Fremont, NE; and great-grandson, Stetson James Butcher of Silver City, IA.
