Janice M. Hayes

Hastings resident Janice M. Hayes, 85, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings.

In accordance with Jan’s wishes, she will be cremated, and there will be no public viewing or visitation. A private family burial will take place at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Jan was born April 28, 1941, in Huron, South Dakota, to Ray and Hazel (West) Hayes. Her family later moved to Hastings, and she graduated from St. Cecilia’s High School in 1959.

Jan worked at the Hastings Regional Center for many years as a secretary for various departments. Following her retirement, Jan continued to work part-time at Allen’s Department Store. She was a member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church. Jan loved to walk out and about when she lived at Good Samaritan Village Gardens and was referred to as “the walking lady”. She also enjoyed her flower gardening and being present at her family’s and grandchildren’s activities.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents; son, Douglas Pawloski; granddaughter, Dani Busboom; sister, Myrna Dover; and brother, Jim Hayes.

Jan is survived by her daughter and spouse, Margo and Gene Busboom of Hastings, NE; daughter, Laurie Fredricks of California; daughter-in-law, Chelle Pawloski of Hastings, NE; and her grandchildren and their families: McKayla and Jordan Auck (Hadley & Hayes) of Bennington, NE; Maverick and Jaylin Busboom (Lexi) of Blue Hill, NE; Kirsten and Tyler Boman (Rhett & Wrenley) of North Platte, NE; Ashtin and Jordan Olson (Brooks & Isla) of Kearney, NE; Kaitlyn Pawloski of Omaha, NE; Ryan Pawloski of Lincoln, NE; Morgan, Dustin, and Trace Fredricks of California.
