Hastings resident, Jeanette (Brown) Grothen entered her eternal home on November 27, 2025, at The Grace Space in Lincoln, NE.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 4, 2025, at First St. Paul’s with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. A private family burial will take place prior to the funeral at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Public visitation will be at Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home Wednesday, December 3, 2025, from 1-7 p.m. with family present from 5-7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to The Paul and Neva Grace Foundation. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. Jeanette was born April 4, 1933, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to John Judson Brown and Marie Louise Childers.
In 1936, the family relocated to El Paso, Texas, where Jeanette attended school and graduated from Austin High School in January 1951. She began her professional career with the Standard Oil Company of Texas.
On February 21, 1952, Jeanette married Paul Robert Grothen. Following Paul’s return from military service in Germany in 1953, the couple established their home on the family farm in Hastings, Nebraska. They were blessed with four children: David Allen, Karen Marie, Donald Paul, and Dale Robert.
Jeanette was a dedicated member of First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where she served faithfully as bookkeeper and held leadership roles on the executive board, including treasurer and president of the ELCW women’s group. She also worked in the toy department at Big G and devoted countless hours to community service as a volunteer for the Red Cross blood mobile and Mary Lanning Hospital, where she served on the executive board.
She is survived by her children; Karen Grothen-Neff (Patrick) of Lincoln, Nebraska, Donald (Martha Mendez) of San Leandro, California, Dale (Billie Guyette) of Hastings, Nebraska, and her daughter-in-law, Wanda Grothen of Lincoln, Nebraska. She is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren; Kelly (Chad) Sparr, Sarah (Zac) Griess, Tharon (Erin) Buhr, Eric (Becky) Neff, Kara Grothen, Tracy (Brett) Grothen-Maly, and Katie Grothen; 18 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; her sister, Claudie; and her son, David.
Her life was marked by faith, family, and service to others. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
