Hastings resident Jeanette M. Schmidt, 85, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2026, at The Kensington in Hastings, NE.
Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at Butler Volland Chapel and Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 26, 2026 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Hastings, NE. with Father Craig Clinch officiating. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings, NE. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m.- 6:30 p.m. February 25, 2026 at Butler Volland Funeral Home in Hastings, with family present from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The family requests memorials be given to the Jeanette M. Schmidt Memorial Fund for St. Cecilia Catholic Church and The Kensington. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. Jeanette was born July 6th, 1940 in Aurora, Illinois to Ralph John & Irene (Bonifas) Mangers. In 1942, the family moved to a farm southwest of Hastings, NE, and Jeanette went to Assumption Catholic grade school. She graduated from Holstein High School in 1958 and married Benny Schmidt on April 23, 1960 at Assumption Catholic Church. She worked at Allen’s for 21 years then joined City National Bank (later Heritage Bank) where she worked for 17 years until her retirement in 2005. In her retirement, she worked as a reception coordinator at Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home.
Jeanette was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church & Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of the America’s, & Crosier Apostolate. She was fond of gardening and outdoor work and kept busy spending time with her many friend groups. She also enjoyed knitting and sewing quilts for her children and ALL her grandchildren.
Jeanette is preceded in death by her husband, Benny, her parents, her sister Kathy Consbruck, and her niece Katie Leslie.
Survivors include: Children & Spouses: Joan & Gene Konen, Tammy & Tom Micek, Greg & Janine Schmidt, Scott & Jamie Schmidt, Beth & Bryon Steffensmeier Grandchildren & Spouses: Nathen & Kayla Konen, Katie & Taylor Smith, Nick & Mandy Konen, Ben Konen, Maggie & Mitch Pope, Amanda & Jeff Hodgen, Blake & Cassie Micek, Sydnee & Steven Archibald, Xander Schmidt & Alexa, Drake & Carissa Schmidt, Lexi & Andrew Young, Lance & Delaney Schmidt, Grant & Lauren Schmidt, Tate Schmidt, Charlie, Pete, & Oliver Steffensmeier, 32 Great Grandchildren and one on the way. Siblings & Spouses: Myron & Janice Consbruck, Dick & Linda Mangers, Marcy & Keith Leslie, Carol & Tobe Parr, Ed & Jeanne Mangers.
Jeanette and family so appreciated the care and love she received from extended family, friends, medical teams, and a very special thank you to the Kensington staff who became like family this last year.
