Jeanne M. Theis

Former Hastings resident Jeanne M. Theis, 92, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at Edgewood Assisted Living, Grand Island, NE. Jeanne was a beloved matriarch whose warmth and humor touched everyone she met.

Rosary will be at 10 a.m. and Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 22, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Hastings with Father Craig Clinch officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. There will be no viewing or visitation. Memorials may be given to St. Cecilia Catholic Church Endowment Fund. Jeanne is survived by her children: Michael, Becky (married to Keith), Todd (married to Deb), and Caroline. She is preceded in death by her husband, Don; sons, Steven and Joe; grandson, Andy; son-in-law, Chris Adams; and siblings, Jim Kost and Bird King.

Jeanne enjoyed a rich life filled with love from her 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She married Don on February 3, 1952, and after his passing in 1986, she never remarried. A proud Lincoln girl, she graduated from Lincoln High School and worked as a secretary/stenographer for the State of Nebraska. Following Don’s Air Force service, they lived in various states, eventually settling in Hastings, where they raised their six children, each uniquely spirited. 

Jeanne spent 15 years in Las Vegas caring for her mother, Ruth, before returning to Lincoln for a decade and then back to Hastings. She will be remembered for her strength as a mother, her sense of humor, and her creative flair. Jeanne was crafty and resourceful, passing these traits along to her family. She enjoyed antiquing, knitting, sewing, and was an avid collector of art and refinishing furniture. Each piece she worked on is cherished in our hearts and in our homes’. 

Though we miss her deeply, we find solace in knowing she is at peace and “right where she wants to be.”
