Jerry Lee Boo

Hastings resident Jerry Lee Boo, 81, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Good Samaritan Village – Perkins Pavilion in Hastings, Nebraska.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 25, 2026, at Butler Volland Chapel with Pastor Dale Phillips officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings, NE. There will be no viewing or visitation. Memorials may be given to Abundant Life Church in Grand Island. 

Jerry Lee Boo was born January 14, 1945 to Clarence Edwin Boo and Alyce L. Norman Boo. They lived on the Boo home place north of Shickley. On Nov 22, 1948, Alyce passed away suddenly from complications of diabetes. After her death, Clarence and Jerry had an extended visit in Arkansas. When they returned, they lived with Alyce’s mother in Shickley, Harriett Norman. Jerry started kindergarten in Shickley. Jerry’s father remarried July 4, 1951 to M. Luella Boo, a teacher in the Shickley area. The new little family moved back to the family farm. Luella became Jerry’s mother and raised him as her own. In 1953, the family moved to York and Jerry’s dad went into business with a partner in a well drilling business. They lived in a little house across the street from Lincoln School in York. Jerry attended first and second grade there. In 1955, they moved to Geneva, where Jerry’s dad purchased an implement business. Jerry then started at Geneva Public School in the fall and was only a block from the school. He graduated from there in 1963. Jerry went to work for a construction company following graduation. In 1967, Jerry was drafted and chose to join the Marines. He developed medical issues during basic training and when he completed it, he was given a medical discharge. He relayed that he was given the choice of the medical discharge or remaining in and he chose to take the discharge. He was then told that they were going to train him to fly a helicopter over Vietnam. He stated that he made the right decision without knowing that!

Jerry’s first marriage was to Teri Griffith. He legally adopted her daughter, Nannette. To this union, one daughter, Nicole, was born. Jerry met Elfreda Kile in Geneva through a friend and family members and they were married in Hastings on Oct 24, 1986. They had wanted to get married on Halloween. Jerry accepted Elfreda’s son, Tim, as his own. Jerry worked at the Hastings Regional Center and did odd jobs around Hastings until his retirement. Jerry had a lifelong interest in cars, beginning with putting together model cars when he was young and displaying them in his room. He enjoyed working on cars. In retirement, Jerry enjoyed watching car shows on TV, visits from his children and grandchildren and some gardening. He and Fritz cooked together and cared for each other. As Fritz’s health declined, he cared for her at home so she didn’t have to go to a care home. She passed Dec 14, 2012.

Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Elfreda Kile Boo, birth mother, Alyce Norman Boo, his father, Clarence E. Boo, his second mom, M. Luella Wilson Boo, and his grandmother, Harriett Norman.

He is survived by his daughters, Nannette (Dean) Stromer, and Nicole (Ross) Denny, and his son, Tim (Karren) Kile, 4 grandchildren, Chloe, Sophie, Ireland and Dave, 2 sisters, Annette (Jim) Marget, and Judy (Lenny) Ackland, and 1 brother, Jim (Vicki) Boo and a host of nieces and nephews and cousins and many, many friends.
