Hastings resident John D. “Dave” Bogan, 102, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2024, at The Villa, Hastings, NE.    

 

Rosary will be at 6 p.m. Monday, April 29, at Butler Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Hastings with Father Craig Clinch officiating. Burial with military honors by the Hastings Military Honor Guard will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation will be 1-6 p.m. with family present 4-6 p.m. Monday, April 29, at the funeral home, and one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. Dave was born January 16, 1922, to David & Mary (Waring) Bogan in Burlington, Iowa. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1939 and attended Hastings Business College. He served in the US Army from September 29, 1942 to February 27, 1946. Dave worked at Industrial Irrigation as the office manager and accountant until he retired in 1987. 

 

Dave married Luetta “Lou” Titkemeier on September 10, 1956; she preceded him in death on January 19, 2011. He was a lifetime member and past Exalted Ruler of Elks 159, lifetime member of DAV and VFW, and a member of the American Legion.  Dave coached Little League Baseball in Hastings. He had an intense love for golf (with four hole-in-ones in his career), Nebraska football, and Royals baseball. Dave still played golf at 100 years old and putted the ball around at age 101. He was the 2021 Veterans Day Parade Grand Marshal. 

 

Dave was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Luetta “Lou” Bogan; and son, Dan Bogan.
