Julia Hinrichs

July 31, 1910 — June 10, 1953

Former Hastings resident, Julia Josephine Loschen Hinrichs, 95, of Blue Hill Care Center, died Sunday, April 23, 2006 at Blue Hill Care Center, Blue Hill, Nebraska.

Services will be Wednesday, April 26, 2006; 10:30 A.M. at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings Nebraska with Rev. Joel Remmers. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Julia J. Hinrichs was born July 31, 1910 in Le Roy, Kansas to Herman and Alice (Trauernicht) Loschen, the tenth of fourteen children. Raised in Beatrice, Nebraska and later moving to Glenvil, Nebraska, Julia met and married Weert Heye Hinrichs. On August 17, 1927, Weert and Julia were married in a double ceremony with her sister Emma & Ervin Rabbe at the Glenvil Lutheran Church.

Julia and Weert had seven children: Lavern. Leonard, Ilene, Melvin, Kenneth, Wayne and Darrell. Weert died at the early age of 49 on June 10, 1953. Julia, supporting her children, worked many years as a Diet Cook at the Hastings Regional Center and part-time as an aide at the Adams County Nursing Home. After her retirement due to a fractured hip, Julia volunteered at and attended the Adams County Senior Center. Julia was a long-standing and active member of First St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Hastings.

Julia enjoyed playing cards with family, especially with her sisters. Special gatherings included baking hundreds of kraut-runzas, cinnamon rolls, breads and raisin-filled cookies. She did beautiful crochet work, winning several ribbons at the Adams County Fair and the Nebraska State Fair. Her greatest joys were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, camping and canoeing with family.

As her hip injury and Alzheimer's progressed, she moved to the Prairie Winds Assisted Living facility in Doniphan, Nebraska. Julia began a tradition of singing the children's hymn 'Jesus Loves Me'. The hymn grew to be a nightly ritual where clients and staff joined her in singing each night at bedtime - not necessarily in tune but heartfelt in every way. As her health continued to decline, Julia was moved to and died at the Blue Hill Care Center, Blue Hill, Nebraska.

Julia was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Weert; three sons; Lavern, Wayne and Darrell, and three grandchildren: Randall Weber, Tammy Hinrichs and Kenneth D. Hinrichs; one great grandchild; and one great-great grandchild. Also preceding her in death were brothers; John, Peter, Harry, Ralph and Dick and sisters: Yanji Loschen, Dena Adams, Elena Loschen, Carrie Hilligas-Kriva, Emma Rabbe and baby Loschen.
