Kenneth LeRoy “Ken” Shafer, 83, of Hastings, Nebraska, passed away on August 3, 2026, at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings, Nebraska.
Ken was born on May 11, 1943, in Glendale, California. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1961 before proudly serving his country in the United States Army, including service in Vietnam. Ken married Marilyn True on February 14, 1985. He later dedicated more than 55 years to Hastings Irrigation Pipe Company, where he remained until his retirement in August 2019.
A true workhorse, Ken dedicated his life to providing for his family. He will be remembered as a humble, hardworking, kind, and caring man whose strength and quiet generosity touched everyone who knew him.
He found joy in working in his yard and spending time with his family, whom he loved deeply.
Ken was preceded in death by his mother, Florence Shafer; his father, Orville Shafer; and his sisters, Roberta Conklin and Deanne Burr.
Ken is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Shafer; his daughter, Ashley and Cole Rostvet; and his brothers, Roger Shafer and Rick Shafer.
Ken’s unwavering love for his family, incredible work ethic, and humble spirit will never be forgotten. His legacy of strength, kindness, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 8, at Grace United Methodist Church in Hastings with Pastor Josh Seifert officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Parkview Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Friday, August 7, at the funeral home, and one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date.
