Larry Bates

Hastings resident Larry G. Bates, 73, passed away Saturday, December 15, 2018, at Mary Lanning Healthcare, Hastings, NE.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 21, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 6075 East Assumption Road, Glenvil, NE 68941 with Pastor Renee Johnson officiating. Burial will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery, 5500 West Oak Ridge Road, Hastings, NE 68901 following luncheon. Memorials may be given to Hastings Food Pantry or Immanuel Lutheran Church. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday with family present at the funeral home, and one hour prior to service at the church.

Larry was born April 18, 1945, in Ayr, NE to Delton & Marie Bates. He graduated from Juniata High School in 1963. Larry married Betty Thede on October 18, 1964.

Larry is a 40-year member of the Hastings Chorus of the Plains Barbershop Chorus. He coached Little League & American Legion baseball for over 20 years. He served in the National Guard. He coached Special Olympics for many years. He served on the Adams County Senior Services Board, the Midland Agency on Aging Board, was President of the ARC of Adams/Clay Countries, a 20-year member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge 28 and a certified Parish Ministry Associate. He volunteered and was actively involved at the Hastings Food Pantry on a regular basis.
