Larry Stromer

Hastings resident, Larry Dean Stromer, 89, passed away March 5, 2026, at College View Assisted Living, Hastings Nebraska.

Larry was born January 22, 1937, near Glenvil, Nebraska; the son of Paul and Mabel (Kissinger) Stromer. He was raised on a farm near Pauline, Nebraska where he attended school for eight years, then graduated from Hastings High School in 1954.

He married his best friend, Doris Elaine Enninga on June 7, 1959. They were married for 64 years.

Larry was employed by Hastings Elevator Company for eight years. Then Farmland Industries where he retired in 1998.

Larry enjoyed reading, sports, yardwork, baking chocolate chip cookies and giving them away. Larry and Doris often spent time with family and friends.

In retirement, Larry and Doris especially enjoyed many long weekends in Estes Park, Colorado, during any month of the year. They always attended and loved the Shepard of the Mountains Lutheran Church.

Larry was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church West of Glenvil, Nebraska, and served on the church council. Larry knew the wonderful love and grace of his Lord and savior, Jesus Christ.

Larry is survived by his sister, Marilyn Fitzke of Hastings, NE, and her family. Also, his very special friends, John and Karen Wenzl of Lincoln, NE, and their family.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris, and their 2 precious children, Thomas Dean and Terry Lynn, his parents and Doris’ parents, Karl and Alma Enninga, and brother-in-law, Bob Fitzke.

Larry chose cremation. Chuck and Cindy Brader, dear friends of Larry and Doris, have graciously agreed to host a Celebration of Life in honor of Larry, at the Brader Country Barn, Glenvil, Nebraska. The Celebration of Life will be held on April 8, 2026, at 11:00 with a meal provided. Larry was an avid sports fan, so please dress comfortably in your favorite sports attire.
