Juniata resident, LaVilla “Kay” Stelzer, 89, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2026, at her home.
Kay was born on October 24, 1937, in Hastings, NE. She was the beloved only child of Glenn and Cecile (Hoffman) Matthews. She graduated from Juniata High School in 1955. She married the love of her life, Richard, on November 9, 1957. Kay worked as office personnel for Midwest Distributors, Inc. in Juniata and retired from Juniata Public Schools as an Administrative Secretary. She was known for her love of supporting the family through many activities, including many types of motor car racing, and was a member of the Tri-City Street Rods. She loved to dance, especially clogging. She was a member of the Juniata United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir and participating in quilting ministry.
Kay is survived by her husband, Richard; Son and Daughter: Scott Stelzer (Cheryl); Susan Spady (Scott), Grandchildren: Matthew Stelzer (Stephanie), Nick Muchowicz (Sara), Eric Muchowicz (Vicky), Derek Spady (Amara), Kirk Spady (Abi), Shay Baumgart (Phillip) and 15 Great Grandchildren, along with extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Juniata Methodist Church, 610 N Adams, Juniata, NE, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Juniata United Methodist Church. The family would like to express their gratitude to St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate care and support. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.lbvfh.com. Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home & Cremation Center is serving the family.
Kay will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and cherished by her grandchildren and friends.
