Laynee Rae McCurdy

With hearts heavy with sorrow, we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Laynee Rae McCurdy, a beloved daughter, granddaughter, student, and friend on September 15, 2025, as a result of an automobile accident. 

A Celebration of Life will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 11, at French Memorial Chapel at Hastings College in Hastings with Pastor Dillon Bartels officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. with the family present Friday, October 10, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family, contributions via Venmo may be given to Justin @JennSue4, or Adams Central Schools Foundation. 

Laynee was born on August 5, 2015, in Hastings, NE, to Justin McCurdy and Keeley (Lindblad) Whitcomb. Laynee was a fourth-grade student at Adams Central Elementary School, where her bright smile, kind heart, and joyful spirit touched everyone who knew her. She had an artist's heart, made friends everywhere she went, and brought light and laughter into every classroom she entered. Laynee’s faith and gentle soul reflected in her compassion toward others and her boundless love for her family and community. She was curious, creative, and full of life — a beautiful soul taken far too soon. 

She is deeply loved and mourned by her parents, Justin and Keeley; step-father, Blake Whitcomb; siblings, Issak McCurdy, Addison McCurdy, Auria McCurdy, Glen McCurdy, and Asher Whitcomb; grandparents; aunts and uncles; classmates and teachers, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. 

Though her time with us was brief, the joy she brought and the love she gave will live on forever.
