Leslie was born at home in rural Blue Hill on December 13, 1925, to Paul and Elizabeth (Van Boening) Krueger, was baptized January 3, 1926, and was confirmed on May 14, 1939. He attended Trinity Lutheran Parochial School and Blue Hill High School. He married Betty Lou Goldenstein, daughter of Louis and Hilda Goldenstein, on March 14, 1948. Leslie, a life-long farmer, and Betty lived west of Blue Hill for five years and then moved to a farm northwest of Red Cloud. In 1960, Leslie was named "Outstanding Young Farmer" by the Jaycees. In 1965, they moved to a farm one-half mile west of Red Cloud and lived there 30 years. Leslie enjoyed farming and raising cattle and his goal was to leave the soil in better shape when he retired. Raising corn was his specialty. When he retired Leslie and Betty moved to Hastings. Leslie was an active member in Zion Lutheran Church in Red Cloud serving on the Church Council as an Elder, Treasurer of the Building Committee and Sunday School Superintendent. As a boy he was active in 4-H Clubs and later a 4-H leader. Leslie enjoyed traveling and camping with family and friends. Through the years, he liked to spend time with his brothers and sisters and extended family and, more recently, visits from his grandson and great-granddaughters. He loved receiving photos each month of his three great-granddaughters, Sophia and twins Alexis and Addison.
Leslie was preceded in death by his parents; sisters and brothers-in-law Eleanor (John) Brehm and Sylvia (Clarence) Bell; brothers Dalvin, Kenneth and Alan; sister-in-law Dona Krueger; nieces and nephews Mike Krueger, Julie Dack, Dianne Gilbert, Tim Krueger and Larry Brehm.
