Hastings resident Lulu May Schmidt, 98, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Good Samaritan Village-Perkins Pavillion, Hastings.
Services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Butler Volland Chapel in Hastings with Pastor C.L. Wimer officiating. Burial will be at the Campbell Presbyterian Cemetery in Campbell. Visitation with the family present will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, February 10, and one hour before the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Presbyterian Cemetery Association. Lulu was born January 27, 1928, in Adams County, NE, to Leland and Edna (Eighmy) Keister. She graduated from Holstein High School and attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for one year. Lulu married Leo Schmidt in 1947; he preceded her in death in 1966.
Lulu was a homemaker and worked at Coakley Industrial Service for 17 years as a seamstress, Front Porch from 1989 to 1991, a dietary assistant at Good Samaritan Village from 1987 to 1997, and a night receptionist at Butler Volland from 1996 to 2014. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Lulu was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo Schmidt; son, Allan Schmidt; sisters, Anna Marie (Erwin Dale) Riese, Caroline (Merlyn) Stadler, and Betty (Raymond) Bockerman; and brother, Leland (Pat) Keister, Jr.
