Former Hastings resident Marshall Gaines, 57, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at UNMC in Omaha, NE, leaving behind family, friends, and a community who will remember him for his dedication, kindness, and willingness to serve others.

Services will be at 10:00 A. M. Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at North Shore Assembly of God Church in Hastings with Pastor Chris Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Parkview Cemetery in Hastings, NE. Visitation will be 1-7 p.m., with the family present 5-7 p.m. Monday, August 10, 2026, at Butler Volland Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. The service will be live-streamed on Livingston Butler Volland Funeral Home’s website. Marshall was born November 9, 1968, in Bainbridge, Georgia, to Marshall Johnson and Carolyn (Gaines) Johnson. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1986 and received an associate's degree from Central Community College in Hastings, NE. He married Andrea Rutt; together they raised three children, her daughter from a previous relationship and 2 sons from their marriage.

Marshall worked as a property inspector for a private firm, where he was respected for his strong work ethic, professionalism, and commitment to doing his job well.

A man of faith, Marshall attended North Shore Assembly of God Church, where he found fellowship and spiritual guidance. He was also a proud member of the Sons of the American Legion and participated in various other organizations, reflecting his commitment to his community and the friendships he built throughout his life.

Marshall will be remembered for his caring heart, dependable nature, and the positive impact he made on those who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, church family, and all whose lives he touched.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
