Marvin "Marv" Hughes

Hastings resident Marvin D. “Marv” Hughes, 98, passed away Friday, December 20, 2019, at his home.

Services are 1 p.m. Friday, December 27, at Butler Volland Chapel in Hastings. Burial will be at Kenesaw Cemetery in Kenesaw. Visitation is 1-8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Salvation Army or Hastings Crossroads Mission.

Marv was born on October 15, 1921, in Desloge, MO to Claude & Gertrude (Short) Hughes. He attended school in Desloge, MO. Marv married Faye L. (McCall) Saunders on May 14, 1954; she preceded him in death on June 15, 2019.

Marv worked at Royal Bedding in St. Louis, MO from 1940 to 1952; Naval Ammunition Depot near Hastings, NE from 1952 to 1955; manager of El Rancho Service Station from 1956 to 1963; agent for American Family Insurance from 1963 to 1983, retiring in 1983; and participated in Meals on Wheels Program deliveries. He enjoyed fishing, sewing double-knit rugs, and hunting.

Marv was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Gertrude Hughes; wife, Faye L. Hughes; brothers, Alvin Hughes, Claude Hughes Jr., and Arthur Hughes; sisters and their spouses, Edna Mae Shy, Betty Strout, and Helen Sutterfield; and son, Terrance Hughes.
