Mary Heineman

December 30, 1929 — June 28, 1953

Hastings resident, Mary Alice (Smith) Heineman, 78, of 815 East 6th, died Sunday, October 12, 2008, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.

Memorial services will be Thursday, October 16, 2008, 11:00 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. William Nottage-Tacey officiating. Private family interment will be at Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska. Memorials may be given to the Kevin Heineman Memorial Forensics Scholarship at Hastings College c/o Joe Heineman, 815 East 6th Street, Hastings, Nebraska, 68901. Family will greet visitors Wednesday, October 15, 2008, 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Heineman was born December 30, 1929, in Omaha, Nebraska to Charley & Inez (Griffiths) Smith. She graduated from Verdon High School, Verdon, Nebraska in 1947 and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Doane College, Crete, Nebraska in 1951. She taught at Shickley High School, Shickley, Nebraska and Whittier Junior High School, Lincoln, Nebraska. She also was in motel management in Big Springs, Nebraska. On June 28, 1953, she married Joe Heineman in Verdon, Nebraska. They lived in Pawnee City, Nebraska for 20 years before moving to Hastings in 1993 from Big Springs, Nebraska. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women's Circle, Clipper Club and the Y.W.C.A., all in Hastings. She was also a member of V.F.W. Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, 20th Century Club in Pawnee City and the Rebekah Lodge in Verdon, Nebraska.

Mrs. Heineman was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Kevin and a brother in infancy.
